Have you ever watched the swirling colours of a Bath Bomb and felt compelled to create a piece of art? Now’s your chance. We’re hollering for artists around the world to help us celebrate the 30th anniversary of the Bath Bomb. Whether you’re a budding artist, or an established one, get the finger paints and pencils at the ready! Here’s how you can get involved.
Birthdays are pretty great right? They’re an excellent excuse to bask in the spotlight. 2019 marks the 30th birthday of the Bath Bomb, and while the company isn’t one to shy away from attention, Lush wouldn’t be where it is today without you. To celebrate, we’d like you to tell your bathtime stories in whatever artistic way you’d like.
We’ll be collating a virtual gallery on the Lush website and through the hashtag #WeTheBathers, so if you’re a whizz at collage, passionate about poetry, a photography fanatic, or a model maker - every day we’ll be updating the We The Bathers wall of creative talent. Wondering where to start, well, it simply starts with a bath.
To get the ball (or should that be Bath Bomb?) rolling, Lush production manager, Vaia Ikonomou, began asking a global community of artists to get involved. She says: “We reached out to some incredibly talented artists through Instagram and other platforms. Bathing is a personal ritual and no two baths are the same, so we thought why not ask the art community to illustrate or animate their feelings around taking a bath.”
In just a couple of weeks, Vaia received submissions from across the globe: “The response was incredible, so far we’ve had artists from the UK, Australia, Latvia, Germany, the US, and Argentina, all having baths and illustrating how that bath made them feel. It has created a truly unique tapestry of emotive art.”
One artist keen to discuss their involvement with the project was Bristol based illustrator and designer Eleanor Hardiman. Did throwing a Bath Bomb into the creative mix make much difference to her design?:
“Anyone who knows me knows how much I love baths, so illustrating a Bath Bomb was an incredible opportunity. After using Blackberry, the imagery and colour palette came really naturally. Having the freedom to let the experience of bathing inspire the imagery meant I could enjoy the process and paint how I felt.”
“I’ve always loved bathing – I use it to relax and it’s a place where my best creative thoughts start. After completing the project I love it even more. When creating the illustration from my bathing experience I found myself really concentrating on the scents, the colours and sounds and completely immersing myself in the bathing experience. It’s made me a more mindful bather.”
As well as being an artistic springboard for emerging artists, Eleanor sees the virtual gallery as a way to discover unknown talent and get inspired by other artists. She says: “Lush has a huge platform viewed by so many creative people, and the more people who see our work, the better! I think working with new artists allows for different work to enter the industry and keep it fresh.”
So next time you’re thinking of taking a bath, why not consider taking a sketch pad with you. Who knows, maybe you’ll even view baths differently afterwards? You can become a part of this worldwide bath art exhibition - the only limit is your imagination.
How to become part of #WeTheBathers
Just pick your favourite Lush Bath Bomb, take a dip and get inspired. There are plenty of brand new Bath Bombs to discover, or alternatively you’re welcome to plump for a longstanding BBF (bath’s best friend).
It doesn’t matter what talents you have and what medium you like working in, we’re embracing artists at all levels - it really is part of the fun! Vaia explains:
“We’re encouraging a mix of up and coming and more well established artists as we want to help grow and support the community. Part of the joy of this campaign is that our audience can see their own art up in a virtual gallery alongside perhaps more well known artists.”
Go wild and experiment, creating a work of art around your bathing rituals and experience. Once you’re happy with your design, you can share it using #WeTheBathers with a small write up explaining which Bath Bomb inspired your creation. Each day we’ll be picking stories and pieces from around the wold to put in the limelight, so keep an eye out in case your artwork appears in this virtual hall of fame.
