Chris Packham announces winner of Hen Harrier naming competition
Last week thousands of you entered the #NameAndSave competition and suggested a whopping 2,361 names for one of the country’s most endangered birds of prey - the hen harrier.
Every year the magnificent birds suffer against illegal persecution and killing, so we teamed up with the RSPB to support them in their mission to protect and save the hen harrier. Find out more about it here.
As part of our work with the RSPB we offered you the opportunity to name a hen harrier chick. And now the time has come to reveal the winner...
TV presenter and environmental campaigner Chris Packham looked through all of the entries, including 23 Birdy McBirdface suggestions, and finally decided on a name that really ruled the roost. Watch him announce the winner below:
The hen harrier will be satellite tagged and given a public profile along with 10 other chicks. The RSPB will be regularly updating the public on their progress on the Skydancer twitter and web pages from August 19, so you’ll be able to follow the whereabouts and shenanigans of the birds as they move away from their nest sites and begin their first winter on their own. Find out more about the project here.
