Doing our Bitcoin: Lush Digital accepts cryptocurrency

Cash, card, phone and now cryptocurrency, from 11 July 2017, you will be able to pay for your favourite cosmetic goodies using Bitcoin.

As the most well known digital currency, Bitcoin is quickly changing the way people, companies and even governments approach trade.

Lush Digital Ltd UK is one of the many businesses that are adapting to accept the cryptocurrency, joining the likes of Expedia, Microsoft and Steam.

Lush Digital Ltd UK is making the move to accept Bitcoin payments on uk.lush.com to provide more global payment methods to customers. It allows payment in a decentralised currency that is unaffected by the global foreign exchange fluctuations, meaning that customers from all over the world all pay the same for a product.

Finance Manager Mike West explains: “Accepting Bitcoin is very exciting for Lush. With Bitcoin, customers from all around the world will pay the same for our products, free from volatile currency fluctuations and lofty bank charges. Cryptocurrencies are the future of global trade and we want to ensure that we are prepared to move into this new digital era.”

It is hoped that by using the digital currency Lush will be able to develop new ways of working with customers, as well as global suppliers and charity groups who are often based in small local communities across the world. Bitcoin allows more transparent and secure transactions with no hefty charges, exchange rates or fees. What’s more Bitcoin is not limited by borders or barriers to financial movement. The decision is the first step in a wider strategy to delve into the Blockchain community and provide an ethical viewpoint on its possibilities.

I am extremely disappointed to learn that Lush are now accepting bitcoin for small (under £16k) transactions. A single Bitcoin transaction consumes more energy than 100 000 Visa transactions (https://earth.org/are-cryptocurrencies-harming-the-environment/). A large proportion of this energy comes from burning coal in developing countries.(https://digiconomist.net/bitcoin-energy-consumption). As an environmental and ethical business, I hope that lush will reconsider this or provided some information as to how their decision to offer this service is not harming the environment.

Totally agree with you... How can Lush pretend they are a green company while accepting payment in such a polluting money???

Just one more reason to love Lush (which I've done since first discovering your Nottingham store two decades ago!)... i have paid for my last two Lush orders online with Bitcoin earned via my Steemit account - how awesome is that?! I would LOVE to accept Bitcoin payments on my website for my artwork - I wonder if you could tell me which cart software you use to enable Bitcoin payments?

Great development. Nice to see that major companies are seeing the possibilities of blockchain and low fee alternatives to the standard payment methods.
