India makes history

India has now banned all imports of animal-tested cosmetics, making them a completely cruelty free zone.

This comes just a few months after banning animal testing of cosmetics in laboratories, making India the first cruelty-free country in South Asia. HSI (Humane Society International) launched the Be Cruelty Free campaign two years ago, and this marks an important victory in the worldwide fight against animal testing. It is also proof of a compassionate, cruelty-free majority of consumers, legislators and supporters within the industry in India, and a huge breakthrough for responsible cosmetics.

The national import ban will come into effect from the 13th November 2014, and is largely down to a petition of over 70,000 signatures in support of the ban.
