London calling: The Samples of Society premiere

We’re living in a strange new world, so Gorilla is peeling back the layers to find the human truth within. Beneath the explosive politics, beneath the fast pace that shouts “Go! Go! Go!”, there are invisible stories waiting to be told. You’re invited to see them.

In a sanctuary carved out of the hustle and bustle of London, the stories unearthed by filmmaker Hal Samples will unravel. The first ever Lush Player documentary will breathe its first breath, and speak its first words.

Roll up, roll up!

The pilot episode of Samples of Society will surface from the murky waters of the planet we call home, in its worldwide premiere on Friday, 12th May 2017.

Gorilla Arthouse invites you to be the first in the room when the story plays out. Join us for the pilot episode, Samples of Society: Metamorphosis, and immerse all your senses in a night of scented cinema. Light refreshments, a Gorilla Perfume installation, and a room of creative people await. We’re keeping a seat warm for you, if you’d care to join us.

What’s it all about?

It all began with a few words: “I had a dream about you. You’re going to make a movie about me.”

This is what the man called Tachowa said to Hal Samples - and he was right. Tachowa lived inside an old water tank, but when Banksy turned its exterior into a piece of art, the eyes of the world were upon this man’s home. This is one tale, opening the storybook pieced together by Hal Samples, who has his own adventures to share.

Meet the filmmakers

Once the story has played out, author, humanitarian and motivational speaker Yossi Ghinsberg, who features in the series, will grace the Lush stage alongside artist, muse and filmmaker Hal Samples. They’ll be quizzed by Lush head perfumer Simon Constantine, and will Q&A their way through the topics on the tip of your tongue. They’ll debate and dissect life imitating art, art imitating life and the power of serving others.

Yossi Ghinsberg has his own stories to tell, chiefly that he was lost and stranded for three weeks in the Amazon jungle, before emerging on the other side. If he’d ever wondered who’d play him in a movie, now he knows the answer. His story will soon be in the big screen spotlight, played out by Daniel Radcliffe in psychological thriller Jungle.

Some stories are so fantastical, that they must be true. Some characters are so unbelievable, that they can only be real. Samples of Society is one strong piece of evidence in the case that says truth is stranger than fiction.
