The Mighty Shampoo Bar

Economical, naked and self-preserving; what’s not to love about solid shampoo bars?

Small but perfectly formed, they're ideal for travelling. These long-lasting, light little bundles of shampoo are concentrated, so there won't be a carry on at the airport if there's one in your carry-on. A single bar could take you around the world in 80 washes, but why wait until you’re going on holiday to use them?

Bottles versus bars

These highly-concentrated handfuls, packed with powerful natural ingredients and essential oils, do the job of three 250g bottles of liquid shampoo. Each mighty bar gives you 80-100 washes (depending on hair shape, thickness and length) and is a lot lighter and slimmer than a shampoo bottle.

You create a smaller carbon footprint when washing with these compact latherers too; one lorry full of solid shampoo bars holds roughly the same number of washes as fifteen lorries filled with liquid shampoo!

How to use

Wet your hair.

Stroke the solid shampoo down it a few times to lather it up, or rub the bar between your hands to create a lather.

Gently massage it into the scalp and hair, as you would with a liquid shampoo.

Rinse out and condition if your hair would like a little extra loving.

Leave the bar out to air dry, ready for its next use.

So there you have it! Why not give one a whirl and share your thoughts on it? If you want to learn more about the creation of the unique and resourceful solid shampoo bar, check out the book ‘Danger! Cosmetics To Go’.

Are soap bars ok when you use a ton of hair products? Washes them all out the same? I use hair fibres to thicken my hair, along with the usual hair spray and hair putty, currently I only have to wash my hair every 3rd day

Yeah it should be fine but may need two washes if the hair spray etc is a little bit stubborn to remove but will work just like usual shampoos :) - Carina

Do shampoo and conditioner bars come in tins, or do I need to buy a tin separately?

Switched to a shampoo bar last year to use on holiday, but also to reduce my plastic waste. My hair absolutely loved it and has stopped falling out in large clumps in the shower. I'm also totally in love with the conditioner bar, Sugar Daddy - I will never, ever go back to liquid conditioner! Makes my hair soft, shiny and smelling incredible.

Suffered from sepsis in May, and have had a tender, sore, itchy flaky scalp ever since. Tried SO many different things, went into lush store, first time in my life, spoke to staff, who recommended i tried soap & float bar and it's changed the entire situation. So glad they recommended it, so much relief it has brought me. Thank you LUSH xxx LOVE IT xx

I'd love to try shampoo bars but with so many to choose from how do you find the right one for your hair?

Ask the staff at Lush for their advice, that's what I did. Although it's my favourite scent, I wouldn't recommend Godiva as it just breaks up after about 10 uses, but the other ones without big bits in them last for ages!

On #myplasticfreeyear and this is one of the first things that I am looking at reducing - my plastic shampoo and conditioner footprint. What a great start! Love my new shampoo and conditioner bar. Thank you for the plastic free packaging!
