All the carrier bags you’ll find at Lush are made from 100% recycled and recyclable paper and printed with vegetable inks. By choosing recycled paper, we are able to drastically reduce the water and CO2 footprint of our bags, straight from the off.
Although our biodegradable carrier bags have been designed to reduce their environmental impact in incredible ways, we recognise that reducing waste and reusing items is even better than recycling. Therefore, we want to encourage our customers to consume packaging consciously and support a reduce and reuse lifestyle.
So grab your canvas totes, knot-wraps, bags-for-life or whatever you choose to take your Lush goodies home in and work that swag!
What if a carrier bag simply can’t be avoided? We get it, there are times you’re just in need of a carrier. Never fear, we will still be offering our beautiful paper bags in various sizes. But with one change: Although English law does not currently require a charge for paper carrier bags, we have taken the decision to add a 5p charge to all of our bags in England, bringing these shops in-line with our fellow teams in Scotland, Wales and N. Ireland, where bag charges have been mandatory for several years now.
This policy has been implemented as part of our Bags to Branches initiative which launched early 2020 and means we are using 100% of our carrier bag pennies (minus tax) to build our Re:Fund pot, focusing on supporting environmentally regenerative projects around the world.
Therefore, if you do need one of our paper carrier bags, you can rest assured your 5p will be going to a great cause.
Wales & Scotland update: As of 1st November 2020, all carrier bag charges from Lush Wales and Scotland will also be incorporated into our ReFund initiative, meaning we are able to offer even more support to grassroots groups working to protect ecosystems and strive for environmental justice.
Please reuse your Lush bag to your heart’s content! Then recycle or compost it when it’s ready for a new life.
