A smoking hot new invention

Cleansing just got a little cleverer. Take a rich, fruit-filled shower smoothie and roll it in soft soap paper to add extra lather to your routine and reduce waste.

From self-preserving scrubs to cleansers which dare to bare, the art of washing is going back to basics (and by basics, we mean naked). Making a self-preserving and naked cleanser like Havana Sunrise, which does not require a plastic tub or container, is the result of many years of soapy experimentation but the benefits are clear. Take away the plastic, create a new type of usable packaging and reduce waste all in one. It's time to get naked.

The first of hopefully many, Havana Sunrise facial cleanser is wrapped in a new soap paper which is strong enough to house the restorative ingredients inside, yet soft enough to lather when applied to the skin. In order to create a new kind of soap, product developer, Wesley Burridge, first looked at the older cellulose-based formulae developed by cosmetic scientist and our long-term partner in crime, Stan Krystal. He also drew inspiration from the texture of dried fruit snacks, and perused health shops in the name of research. ‘I tried all sorts of fruits and vegetables,’ he explains, ‘before finally hitting on melons which have the right amount of sugar and fibre to produce a consistently pliable but quite resilient thin sheet when dehydrated.’ Once Wesley had nailed it in the lab, these Swiss roll style roulades for the face and body were ready to roll out.

The latest addition to the cleansing family, Havana Sunrise, may look like a cigar, (and have a sweetly smoky fragrance) but we promise it’s the far better option for your complexion. A blend of fresh, organic lime juice, fresh mint decoction, aduki beans, and coconut oil create a soft buttery cleanser which gently exfoliates your skin. This refreshing mix is rolled up in a lathering layer of honeydew melon puree and soap flakes to secure all that goodness inside and then shaped it into a Cuban cigar. The protective layer of soap paper keeps the fresh ingredients active, and lathers up for additional cleansing.

When it comes to washing, simply break a little piece of your facial scrub smoothie off and work between your hands with a little water to form a soft, soapy paste. Smooth all over the skin, working the product in with little upward circles to boost circulation and remove dead skin cells, then simply wash away for a glowing complexion. The added lather of the melon puree paper gives your skin a lovely matte feel after cleansing! Simply store your facial scrub smoothie somewhere dry and cool (a soap dish away from water is ideal).
