New life mantra: what would a coconut do? These trees provide everything really, including a syrupy nectar collected from the palm’s blossoms, which is full of fruit sugar that conditions skin and hair and helps to keep moisture locked in.

Description

Description

The coconut palm (Cocos nucifera) is thought to be native to the warm climates of Polynesia, Malaysia and southern Asia. 'Kalpa vrishka,' the Sanskrit name for the coconut, means 'tree which gives all that is necessary for living'.

The trees bloom and bear fruit throughout the year, growing a new flower spike nearly every month. The flowers can be cut to collect their nectar, a clear liquid that will be then boiled to obtain a sweet, humectant syrup. If boiled even more it becomes sugar, which is subtly sweet, almost like brown sugar but with a slight hint of caramel.
